ARK's Select-Flow Valve™ makes straw drinking easier for beginners or for those with oral motor difficulties. It is designed to control the direction of fluid - liquid flows up into the straw but does not flow back down again. Sipping therefore requires less effort. It also reduces the amount of air ingested, so users will experience less coughing and choking when consuming more fluids.

Select-Flow Valves are recommended for individuals who tend to aspirate or have difficulties generating and maintaining suction. Simply push the tapered end of the valve into the bottom of a straw. For individuals who tend to take too much fluid at a time, the Select-Flow Valve™ also slows the flow of fluid, allowing for smaller, more manageable sips that lower the risk of coughing or choking. If a restricted flow is not necessary, then simply trim the tapered end of the valve with a pair of scissors to increase the flow.

Select-Flow Valves™ are recommended for thin liquids (water, milk, juice without pulp, etc) but not for carbonated drinks. For thickened liquids, "nectar" consistency works fine. If you trim the tapered end of the valve to open up the flow, "honey" will work but will be harder to suck through the straw. "Pudding" consistency does not work, as it is too thick.

Recommended for use with the ARK's Cip-Kup™, Sip-Tip®, or the Bear Bottle. Select-Flow Valves will also work with most standard drinking straws too.

Select-Flow Valves can be used several times before they need discarding. They cannot be taken apart for thorough cleaning so eventually they will need to be replaced after enough use. Flushing the valve immediately after each use with warm soapy water will help to prolong the life of the valve. Dishwasher safe.
